General discussion

Is mp3 universally cross-platform?

Feb 18, 2006 1:48AM PST

I am sending out an mp3 voiceover demo to producers over my own website.

It was produced and uploaded with a Mac. It has an .mp3 file name.
Will it be playable on Macs and PCs? Also I notice my voiceover
studio sent it to me without an .mp3 file name. Does that make it
more universal? --Russ Nichols, Los Angeles

Here's the file:

99.999% of the time will be fine.

For the remaining 0.001 % that can't play MP3s, I would not worry for them.

The Mac does not rely on filename extensions, but if your audience is mainly PC/Windows then you'll want the extension.

You answer has been very helpful. I was a little concerned that my voiceover mp3 might be a problem for PC people in the industry. --Russ Nichols
