Is Microsoft Edge worth it, or should I just move on?

Mar 31, 2017 5:06PM PDT

I started having so many problems with Microsoft Edge that I deleted it from my computer. I may try downloading it again, since your suggestions indicate it is still a viable browser. Have other readers had problems with Edge failure? Are there any advantages to Edge versus other browsers, or should I just move on? Thank you for the great work, the advice and recommendation from your readers have helped me solve many problems and given me valuable insights over the years!

Microsoft Edge -- NOT
Apr 15, 2017 7:57AM PDT

The only time that Edge turns on is when I do something that energizes it. I have never used it for anything. I use Firefox 98% on the time and Chrome about 2%. I am using a W10 computer, but for all intents and purposed, it is W10 Frame with W7 Programs operating underneath it. When you go to W10, you do not have to forgo your favorite W7 Programs. I use the following programs that I used to use in W7 and they all installed correctly.
Firefox Internet Browser
Thunderbird e-mail reader
Chrome Browser
Nitro PDF Reader
Picasa 3 Photo Viewer
PicPick Screen Capture
Irfanview Photo Viewer
Quicken 2016 Financial Program
RadioSure Internet Music
7 Zip A Zip, Unzip Program
Office 2016 Office Suite (Microsoft Program)
WD Backup Image Back up File for my WD drive
C Cleaner To Clean up unnecessary files
Malware Bytes To Clean up Malware or unwanted programs installed in Computer by ?

I mainly use W10 functions to turn the computer on and off and put it too sleep. W10 is more of a shell to me and all my programs function inside that.

If you can believe it or not, W10 also includes W7 Backup! I would insert the image from my computer, but this form does not allow that. Almost every other on line program allows you to insert a file from your computer to add to something. If you don't believe me, just call up backup program in your W10 computer and note that it is called W7 Backup.

I tolerate W10 as my O/S and use the parts of it that are appropriate to me.

Edge

Not knowing which rendition o Win 10 you're running I can't make a one size fits all solution!! I manually did the latest and greatest Win 10 update to the Creators Edition which is Version 1703!! In it there was some changes to Edge, quite a few as a matter of fact!
Don't flush the toilet on Edge until you get the Creators update!! Having said all that let me state I've only used Edge occasionally since it's inception, I use FireFox exclusively Laugh !! I wouldn't be caught dead using Chrome as it is a Google "ET Phone home product"!! Shocked A whole lot of people complain, carp, belly ache about Win 10 phoning home but are totally content using Google's phone home all the time app (Chrome) and swear by it! What an oxymoron that is!! Confused Shocked

Edge retains political innocence
Apr 15, 2017 9:52AM PDT

Interestingly, while I like Chrome most of the time, I find that I have two major issues with it, one of them leading me to only use Edge in certain circumstances. Efge has had some rough spots, but I find it steadily improving over most websites.

1. Chrome can kind of "crash" and not let you connect to any websites, telling you it can't connect, yet when I start up another browser I can easily connect. Along the same lines, Chrome has corrupted some of my machines where I've had to uninstall and re-install.

2. I like to post on some media sites that use Facebook as the posting engine, and while my posts do tend to be more right wing, there's nothing extreme. Over a couple of years of posting on one website using Chrome I suddenly found that the 'Comments' section no longer appeared on more politically-fired up articles - though at times there would still be a brief flash. Innocuous pieces had no issues showing the 'Comments' section. When I switched to Edge, I no longer had that problem. I found it very odd. Comments would also disappear in Firefox. I didn't try Opera.

One suspects some entity was using Internet II features in Chrome to silence expression.

No favorites customizing

One of my problems with edge is the lack of the ability to personalize my Favorites, such as being able to sort them the way I want them instead of the default alphabetically.

Improvements of Edge
Apr 17, 2017 2:09PM PDT

With Microsoft promising new features and upgrades coming on the latest Win10 this month,
Edge is getting a facelift also. It might be a good idea to wait and see how it performs after the upgrades.

Not until Favorites is fixed
Apr 20, 2017 8:30PM PDT

I still can't use Edge because of Microsoft's stubborn refusal to fix the Favorites. The Favorites/Bookmarks bar is the most important part of any browser for me, but Edge still can't match any other mature browser in this regard, even IE.

For example, you can't right right click on any link on the right side of the Favorites bar. As a result, you can't perform any action (like Delete and Rename) on these links. You can't even move a link around on the right side list! To fix anything, you have to go to the Hub and work from there. But, of course, the best way to work is right within the links themselves. The Hub is clunky and a step removed from what you actually use.

On the basis of Favorites alone, I cannot use Edge.

Not really important
May 29, 2017 6:28AM PDT

I have 2 laptops at 2 separate locations. Every time I try to sign in to Edge at the second laptop it advises me I am syncing from a different device BUT it will not accept my password. I have spent endless hours to no avail and gave up. My life is easier and I have no problems using Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox. Don't bother with Edge. Let them fix the gremlins first. What are the advantages of Edge anyhow compared to other options. Do they want to sell more advertising, remove support like they did with W7. or what?. Be suspicious of their motives.
