Is Mackeeper a good program?

I just upgraded my iMac High Sierra 10.13.1. I immediately had an "expert" there to advise me how to install it and how to buy it. Is it worthy buying? I don't mind, but I was surprised to have this come up right after the upgrade. He was trying to be very pursuasive, but I want to know about it before I buy.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, Peggy

Yes, I'm shouting.
Mackeeper is a piece of malware that you do not want within 10 miles of your computer.

THANKS

In reply to: STEP AWAY FROM MACKEEPER

Thanks for the advice. I had a bad feeling about. The pressure being put on to sign up NOW by the tech person guiding through Sierra was weird. I didn't trust it. Now I need to get it off my computer. I hope it won't do anything. I've read some bad things from people who said it deleted things during a clean up that shouldn't have been deleted.

Again, many thanks, p

Dr. Cleaner

In reply to: Is Mackeeper a good program?

Definitely not!
I once had the similar situation with you. I installed Mackeeper by accident only to find it was a malware which would pop up when I was using the Safari. I tried many methods to uninstalled it but it still popped up as it used to do.
Finally, I found Dr. Cleaner could do me a favor. With the once click uninstalling function, I clean up the Mackeeper.
You can get it for free in App store and this app will automatically handle everything without the requirement of any further effort. Besides, Dr. Cleaner has many other functions like disk cleaning. Due to this disk cleaning, your device will be able to work in a much more effective way.
I hope my answer could help you!

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS

In reply to: Is Mackeeper a good program?

It's a Ukraine company based in Germany, or the other way around. I don't know but either way, it's not from this country. So can you trust it?

It's not worth it to over see your cpu. I opted out as soon as possible. It's not even recommended by Apple support.

Dont Install

In reply to: Is Mackeeper a good program?

Personally, I wouldn't install that kind of software. They're totally unnecessary.

Do not touch that stuff, as I am typing this, I am spending the next 90 minutes doing some repair work due to this malware.

App Store applications are trustworthy

In reply to: Is Mackeeper a good program?

I would suggest to never install it. There are other anti-viruses available on App store. Anything avaible on appstore is trust worthy.

There is no need for Anti-Virus on Mac

In reply to: Is Mackeeper a good program?

Don't use any kind of "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" product on a Mac. There is never a need for it, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attack, not less.

If you have installed Mackeeper, follow this guide to uninstall it from your Mac safely.

Interesting take.

In reply to: There is no need for Anti-Virus on Mac

Given that the virus trade is extremely sparse for OS X, if not none existent, the plethora of malware is both annoying and increasing.

Malwarebytes for Mac does a good job of finding the ones that do get through though.

ClamXAV, not free anymore, has found a number of threats for me while TotalAV, it is free, and gets decent reviews.

How does having decent AV make one "more vulnerable to attack"?
