I can give you a ballpark answer on this question,

there will definately be a probability that maybe there will be a design change on the Macbook Pro, sometime between now and sometime in 2011.

2 Years is a long while for Apple not to update their product lines.

In 2 years, you will have enough money to purchase a 13" MBP at today's price.
Maybe in 2011, the price will be lower.

Your time period is to far out to make any judgement calls on price or models. Maybe there will not even be a 13" MBP in 2011

Keep saving. Happy

not a valid speculation

there will definitely be a probability that maybe? Do you even look at what you write? What does that even mean? Looks like you have no clue what you're talking about and you're just speculating. If that's the case why not just say so? Or in your answer include detail of past data points or benchmarks which support your speculation?

I reckon

you might have missed the point.

Apple are usually 'closed lipped' about their future developments and speculation is generally just that, speculation.

The answer you got conveyed that, 'definitely, probability, maybe', tells us that, "no-one knows".

Keep checking Apple's publications for development news.

speculation is ok

I agree, and I never thought that speculating about future Apple product development was wrong. However, not siting reasons for speculation is no better than guessing.

All speculation is guessing,

especially when it comes to upcoming Apple releases/upgrades/new products.

Rather like the date that Apple will/will not/might release an iPhone on Verizon.
That's been going on for 18 months, at least, with some of the best "insiders" giving us the truth, aka guessing.

Expect an update between December and February
Sep 27, 2010 6:56PM PDT

Apple tends to update the Macbook Pro line every 8 months, as they have done for the past several years [except for the current model which was 10 months]. However, the next gen iPhone and iPads are looming and Apple will likely release the three products at separate events spanning over at least the first quarter of 2011, with the MbP being the lowest priority for Apple as the iPhone is obviously number one and the iPad is debatably number two [especially since there have been many rumors that a new model is currently in production]. The Verizon iPhone appears to be at least 4-6 months away though and Goldman Sachs is reporting that the next iPad isn't due until mid 2011, so it is likely that the MbP and the Macbook Air [which is overdue for an update] will be the next to be updated, most likely together. There is of course the iPod Classic which was not updated with the rest of the iPod line, so perhaps that is done for.

My early 08 MbP is on its last legs so I'm looking to get the new 17" i5 asap. Apple has been lowering their prices by around $100 for most of their lineup for the past few years, so you may be able to get the entry level 13" for $1100 [its at $1200 now].

Read the thread
Oct 14, 2010 11:17PM PDT

Read the thread, particularly the bits about how no one knows. Apple has always been a famously paranoid company when it comes to product launches and updates. Take a look at their heavy handed tactics with the whole iPhone 4 thing, where some poor (likely ex-)Apple employee left a prototype on a bar stool on his birthday. They got the county to execute a search warrant on some blog editor's home, and seize a bunch of his stuff because the place he works for bought the prototype phone which he wrote an article about it and put up some pictures.

Steve Jobs also had a rather public meltdown at an event one time when some company that makes analytical software for the iPhone let loose that Apple appeared to be testing what later turned out to be the iPad. Who knows what kind of lawyering went on behind the scenes as well.

Hopefully by now you're getting the idea that nobody knows, and if anyone at Apple HQ were to talk, they'd likely not only lose their job, but be blacklisted at pretty much every one of Apple's partner companies, and Apple would also likely sue any non-partner company that wanted to hire them, claiming some kind of non-compete clause officially, but really just to make the person's life miserable. That's the only real reason those non-compete clauses are enforced. They're purely punitive.

Most likely no touchscreen
Oct 22, 2010 1:36PM PDT

The reason why i say no touchscreen is based on the new macbook air and how the developers all stated that having a touchscreen on a laptop that is not a tablet is uncomfortable (based on their studies) therefore im guessing no touchscreen

What they probably will have is a new line of macbook pro's in time to be released with their new Mac OS X Lion by mid summer 2011. that may seem to be a long time span from the previous upgrades they have done (around 8 months before a new upgrade on previous MBP's and around 10 months on the last one) so this one must just be that much better, who knows?

I think that they'll have a smaller size for this model it'll probably cost a little more because i think apple is going to try to experiment with the flash based memory a little more than just the macbook air. maybe something like a crossover, a flash based 'hard-drive' (if i can even call it that anymore) for the "instant on" they're all hyped about on the macbook air and a real harddrive for actual processing and storing of information.

What i am hoping for in this 'new' macbook pro:
1) lighter models
2) even more battery life
3) keep the same display sizes (13, 15, 17)
- the 13" because i am a student and i need something light, the 15" doesn't fit on the little tables they have in our classes
4) same or lower prices on the models
5) NO SHARP CORNERS

All i can say is, save up money and wait for the new one, as much as i want to buy one now, its just been too long to wait for an upgrade and i think they should release one soon enough. maybe they'll release it in time for the holidays, cutting it short on the whole 'waiting for mid summer 2011' thing i was saying before, but i'm just a hopeful guy.

Why MacBook Air? Is it will be instade of MacBook Pro?
Oct 22, 2010 9:50PM PDT

Hi everybody,

First of all I'd like to say thanks to your quick replay about my first question.

I like MacBook Pro, and i think "MacBook Wheel" and Air" will not be best than "MacBook Pro" because the last have full keyboard and many great features.

Is it true new MacBooks ( Air, Wheel ) will be the feature line of MacBook users.

About me i see the opposite.

Thanks and regards,
Saif

There is no MacBook Wheel
Oct 22, 2010 11:40PM PDT

There is no MacBook Wheel, that was a joke story by The Onion. Everything on The Onion is a joke, that's what the site is, it makes fun of real news stories by creating funny exaggerated versions of them. In this case, the joke was taken as serious by a couple of people, and then they became part of the joke.

And the MacBook Air is kind of the redheaded stepchild of the whole MacBook line. It gets refreshed maybe once a year, while the others are 2-3X a year. There a real pain to work on/repair too. Lots of tiny little screws. I do loads of display replacements because I get all kinds of demo units in with broken hinges. I don't think sales of the Air have been what Apple was hoping for, but at the same time have been good enough not to kill the line altogether.

The MBA is thin, light, and quiet, but that's about it. There's about zero upgrade capacity, it's under powered, you have a SINGLE USB port that's kind of awkward to use, the charging port is also kind of in an awkward place (though I admit that's a side effect of the thing being so thin... There's just nowhere else to put the charging port), and it's expensive. I think the new MBA has a couple of extra USB ports. I haven't had a chance to really look into it.

The new 11" MBA costs about the same as the MacBook which has a bigger screen, bigger HDD, more RAM, etc. So unless you spend most of your life in airplanes and airports, where every bit of weight you can shed is important, it's not really worth the money IMO. A MacBook only weighs a little more, has better specs, and costs the same.
