Folk get along or not with iTunes. I however just use it and didn't go looking for other solutions as it works for me.
The quality question has been kicked around for over a decade. I'm guessing you are still wondering.

I had my music library in iTunes. The system crashed and I am starting over. I want to know should I use iTunes or go with another program? I like ACC as a lossless backup but also use MP3 for my devices. I also have older Cd's that have a lower audio output, so a music volume leveling function is important. I haven't been impressed with that function in iTunes to date. Another consideration is what is the best compromise setting between file size and quality for MP3?
