Is it worth it?

I am beginning to dislike my heavy/clunky desktop. It is a good gaming system, but so inconvinient to move around to LANs. I have been looking at some desktop replacement notebooks, but am wondering is the price for them actually justified. Will they be as good at playing games as my desktop now?
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
1024 MB PC3200
ATI 9600 XT
ASUS A7V600
If so, what are good gaming notebooks. I loathe Dell by the way. Thanks
