General discussion

Is it true?

Nov 28, 2005 9:52PM PST

Is it true that the Creative Zen Micro Photo will not work with iTunes? My daughter already has files on iTunes and has gift cards for more music that way. I am very new to the mp3 player scene. I probably shouldnt buy the zen if it wont accept iTunes music. Help!!!

Many have discovered that you can make an AudioCD to feed the software that you use with the non iTunes unit's software.

so this means she must first burn the songs to a CD from iTunes, and then Rip them onto her zen?
where else can she get music? is it the same cost as iTunes?
really...thank you for your help...I am an old lady....I dont know much about this stuff. I just want to get my daughter a great Christmas present.
I am seriously considering the Cowon iAudio x5 now...but worry about the lack of folders and organization of music. ugh. i just want someone to tell me what to buy.

I'm just sharing what a neighbor does to workaround that issue. They seem to have no problem with it. Maybe there's a better solution someone else will not.

If you have songs bought from itunes they are in Protected AAC format. That means it won't play on anything but an ipod. You could burn the cd to a disk and then rip it back on to the computer in a different format, doing that will lessen the audio quality though.

Other places you can buy music are napster, yahoo unlimited and rhapsody. Those are about the same as iTune. 99 cents per song. They work for a ton of others players like creative, iriver, cowon and dell...

If you want more help picking out an mp3 player tell us what your daughters needs are. Does she have a little or a lot of music? Does she listen to the radio? does she work out? stuff like that.

More suggestions...

See, this is why I heartily dislike IPod. You buy one and then spend loads of money on additional accessories and music. *sigh*
Anyway, if you were to get the Creative and were determined to use the Itunes there are two things you could do. I think the first was already mentioned...burn the itunes onto a cd, transfer them to your computer and theeen the Zen. Bit tedious, but it works. Otherwise, a mate of mine has this software called Tunebite and it converts and redoes the songs so they can play anywhere and they load quickly and easily on any player you get now or in the future. Also, there is shareware out there where your daughter can load music and movies for free (not competely legal, but honestly people..how else can you get obscure independent imported tracks, etc)such as Limewire (limewire.com v.good) and Bearshare (bearshare.com). And you daughter sounds like a bit of the rebel so she might enjoy accessing these and everything is in basic mp3 format and should work with any player she receives.
I hope this all helps and good luck!

Thanks to all who are setting me on the right track. I talked to my daughter a little yesterday. the iTunes problem is not an issue. She informed me that she gets her tunes from other venues and most she will be ripping from store-bought cd's.
She also told me she does NOT want an iPod. She does not want to be limited by iTunes. SOOOO.....I think the Creative Zen Micro photo 8GB is where I stand. I think she will like the color screen and 4,000 songs is probably enough. The ideal player would be that creative zen sleek photo 20GB if that were to come out by christmas. oh well.
