Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. Depending on your issue, we might need the operating system, processor speed, amount of RAM installed, brand name of the computer, (if there is one), and any EXACT error messages you are receiving, and in your case, WHY do you want to remove Java? The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.
In the meantime, YES, you can uninstall Sun's Java 2 Runtime Environment safely. (Note: I said UNINSTALL NOT Delete.) You may not be able to use Java applets on any browser unless you have some form of Java Virtual Machine, but it won't "hurt" anything to remove it..BEFORE uninstalling it, I would recommend download and storing the most recent installer file for Java, just in case you decide to install it again.
Hope this helps.
