Given that Flash & Shockwave have about as much access to the controlling of your machine as you do at the keyboard....
I NEVER update any **Player** from anywhere but the originators home site, thru my own existing bookmarks/favorites, since you can't be sure the cursor over is true addie you reach & infected versions abound.
Any time I download ANY of those kind of formats (Audio/Video/Wmv/Mp3
etc.etc., I save them to 1 folder for the purpose, then right click scan them with everything I've got before opening. Still not 100% fool proof but as good as I can do.
I realize that watching utube is perfectly safe but I was told recently that downloading videos using .flv from UTube can actually contain malwhere, probably not virus as they use a more sophisticated language and flv is a very simple one but it is possible to get trojans from the download that will then execute and hold open the door for the other nasties. I was told that utube has the capabiltiy to be sure that watching their videos is perfectly safe but they are not as protected in the download. Can anyone tell me for sure.I just got a massive viral infection including vundo prunnet, and pidle as well as several worms and a whole slew of trojans that ended up taking out windows explorer on one of my computers. They all hit about 12 hours after some utube videos were downloaded to my computer. I run AVG 8.5, Super Antispyware, Malwherebytes, SpybotS&D although the last 2 were not up to date at the time, so I felt pretty safe occasionally downloading from utube til now. Does anyone know for sure?
