General discussion

is it possible to copy this cd-rom?

Feb 5, 2004 11:44PM PST

Hi,

I'm trying to make a backup of my game "Command and Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, using my Ricoh DVD+RW drive for burning and Samsung CD-ROM drive as the drive for "reading" the game, and "RecordNow!" (ver. 6.5.1) as the app. I have tried three times to burn the cd, each time receiving multiple errors explaining what might have happened (and useless cds). I am pretty confident, though, it is the copyright that is preventing me from copying it. Does anyone know of such a program to "overwrite" or perform this task without error or without disregard for copyright info on the CD-ROM? Or is there a way to tweak "Record Now!"?

Thanks ahead of time,
Phil

Just FYI. The forums don't support this discussion.

Forum policies are pretty clear on the subject:
"Piracy or Unlawful Activities
This community forum is a place for ideas and constructive participation, and not a place to violate any laws or to discuss illegal activities. This type of activity includes, but is not limited to, advocating or asking for information regarding software piracy or unauthorized emulators of software or hardware, sharing or distributing viruses, licenses, registration information, software keys, "cracks," or other information designed to do harm to or allow unlawful access to any computer hardware, software, networks, or any other systems. Please refrain from posting this kind of message."

If they allowed discussions on how to bypass copy protection, then the forum may come under fire from the software makers and others.

While I agree that "FAIR USE" may allow making the copy, the ugly truth is that we can't discuss the actual means to copy it in these forums and are left to note that it's copy-protected and what you have will not work.

A way around this is to get the program call virtual cd/disk (I believe) if you have lots of harddrive space. What this does is to put the game/s on the harddrive and play the game from there then you can store the game disk as backup/safe keeping.
