Is it okay to disable to ACPI mode?

Nov 30, 2003 1:01PM PST

Hi,

Is it okay to disable ACPI mode?

I'm trying to set up Windows XP Pro on my laptop, but I get a blue screen with a lot of writing. It explains the problem as "The BIOS is not fully ACPI-compliant." It then suggests I contact the manufacturer to get an updated BIOS, or disable ACPI mode by pressing F7 at a certain time. Is it okay to just do the second thing, and disable ACPI mode? Or will that cause damage to my computer?

Thanks for reading.
Mike

Oh dear - the topic title should say, 'Is it okay to disable ACPI mode?'. I've put an extra 'to' in there by mistake.

It sounds as if you might have to. If this is true, your laptop might be rather old and you could also encounter other driver issues with XP. This reference is to advanced power management. In the case of a laptop, it might mean some battery conservation features will not be available. Disabling ACPI will not cause harm but you will lose some features and abilities.
