General discussion

Is it ok to cut and paste html from other web sites?

Hi!

I am thinking of building a web site. Is it ok
to cut and paste portions of html from other
web sites to build your own original site?

Thanks for responding,

I would say it depends on WHAT HTML you are copying.

Basic code is basic code, but if you start to get into things that are unique design elements, you might be treading on thin ice. If you are talking about copying it to the point that text for the page is included I would say you defiantely want to stay away from that.

Last, but not least, it might not do you any good. If the section you are trying to copy references an external file (i.e. graphic, include, CSS) you probably won't have access to it and your page won't work.

I have looked at code before to get an idea of how something works, but I have never just straight copied and pasted something from someone else.

However, I don't think there any copyright laws protecting html code designating page element positioning, font, text size and placement, etc...as long as you don't copy their logo Happy
