I am already using security essentials. Is it necessary to run an antispyware antimalware along with it? If so which one? Usually the top rated are malwarebytes and hijackthis...

Quick answer, YES

Microsoft Security Essentials is fine as an anti-virus scanner with some anti-spyware built in, but no anti-virus will find all malware threats.

That is why we usually recommend the free versions of Malwarebytes Anti-malware and SUPERAntiSpyware.

HiJackThis is not an anti-malware scanner. It is a tool to find out running processes on a system.

Review the sticky, top post and do take the advise. You just can't take things for granted, attacks vary and you need all the various protection out there, even freebies are worth it. if you like buying a "security suite" as in a bundlw s/w or package is also worth it, cash well spend.

FYI- I was attacked and my s/w reduced the damage or hassles. I did recover with little effort. So, I suggest you have something more than "essentials s/w".
