Is it easy to re-install windows 98 SE?

Im having a lot of problems with my computer...says that theres no sound card when there is one hooked up, wont let me download or open any files using internet explorer, when i click on a link, a new page comes up but it's just blank...how can i start out fesh as if it were a new computer?..and should i save the things/programs that i need on a cd or floppy disk and then re-install it? and is there a step-by-step why to do this? im running on a gatway computer with a pentuim 2 processer using windows 98 SE...thanks for the help..

For example http://www.kids-online.net/learn/fdisk.html shows the OS install.

Now that's just the OS and no mention of drivers for Motherboard (MB), Video, Audio, USB, and what else you may need.

Because of the variety of hardware out there, there is not step by step. Only guides.

im running on a gatway computer

From that statement, I would assume your only recourse would be a recovery. Tell exactly what media you have for this operating system.
