Is it a plot? Audio CD's won't work in computer & visa-versa

Dec 29, 2004 2:41AM PST

Is there some plot against we consumers?

My job is to record speeches and talks for various companies. On one job, using their equipment, I needed to use a spare CD I carry, just in case, one that I use in my computer. It wouldn?t work in their CD recorder / duplicator. Then when the recording part of the job was completed, and I had yet to make copies, in their diabolical attempt to (finish) drive me completely insane, the reverse curse! My Dell desktop doesn't recognize their audio CD's of the work I did from their CD recorder / duplicator. I am looking at the prospects of not being able to finish the job by getting them the required copies of their presenter's talk.
Is it me or what?? Do some CD?s work in both a computer and a CD recorder / duplicator? How do I ?trick;? one of the infernal devices it to believing that it has the correct disk inside? Is it me? Did I buy ?cheep? CD?s that only do one thing? HELP!!
Thank you very much for any help you are able to give. Fergie (that one is taken) so I?m Fergy

"Just because you?re paranoid, doesn?t mean they?re not out to get you.?

Such is rarely compatible with all but machines that use that same software.

Fix? Don't use any CD as a diskdrive software.

Huh? Where could I learn more?

In CD? DirectCD? What? DragCD?, Is that where girls dress up like boys, and boys 'dress' like girls, as The Lady Chablis in the book? I would guess CD's would then 'dress' as if they were DVD's or CD-ROM's.
I'm moderately tech savvy, but your suggestion about some type of CD's used went right over my pointy-head. Could you recommend a web site or book to aid me in untangling my mind? (A mind is a terrible thing to waste, & mine is almost gone) In the mean time, I have looked at many of C|net's postings, (picked-up many tips & tricks). The ?How Stuff Works? site & several of their links, including Uni/Washington's Professor Kelin J. Kuhn's course notes on ?Audio Compact Disk & other disk formats?, (sampling rates and error corr. I've got, I'm not sure I understand it, but I have all the formulas); a site 'CD Media World', how to make CD's with my own gold vaporizer machine; Andy something or other's FAQ @ MIT (but he's not answering my computer 'call' today (error401 page not found)); Samuel M. Goldwasser's Sci.Electronics.Repair FAQ V:2.14 (Last Updated: 11/16/04); I even (tried to) speak to the folks at Best Buy & CompUSA (they want $$$ I don't really have to tell me it won't work).

I think I see my "wits end" coming down the street, so as you may have guessed, I'm about to lose it. ANY (urgent) help you might like to offer would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you for hearing my plea.
Happy New Year!!

All this and more at http://www.cdrfaq.org/

Be aware that...

a) I don't duplicate web content.
b) I will discuss almost any PC matter.
c) Web sites come and go, but try again later or use google.com to look at the cached version.

A small explanation.
Jan 8, 2005 7:33AM PST

The reason I can't copy web content is simple. It's one of the forum policies. I can copy a few sentences, but a link works. The second reason is there are only a few moderators to make the rounds and then we have some very helpful members that pitch in as well. Again, there are only so many and the need is great.

Happy to read you sorted it out,

Bob
