Your description is spot on for the backlight failure. However knowing it's that may not help as parts are usually not available because such things have no user serviceable parts.
But let's hope it's in warranty. If so, call 1-800-SAMSUNG.
I just have an inquiry in relation to a Samsung 931c Syncmaster monitor. I have a dual monitor setup, and one of my monitors stopped working. I exchanged cables to make sure it was not the video card, so alleviated this issue. When I go and drag an open explorer window over to the other (not working) monitor, I can make out the outline of the window being dragged across, but it is very very very faint, as the screen is almost totally, but not quite black. My question, as I have very limited knowledge in this area, is, Is it a backlight or capacitor issue?
