Is iPhone available as a gift for someone in Europe?

Aug 16, 2010 7:31AM PDT

I live in U.S. but I'm considering buying an iPhone 3G for my Dad who lives in Europe. My only concern is this statement in small print under the iPhone purchase page, "Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract". Can someone suggest what shall I do?

Let him buy the iPhone locally. More support, less trouble, warranty. Then pay him back.

You can purchase the iPhone without an AT&T

contract but it will cost you a larger fortune as it would not be subsidized by AT&T.

You may even have a problem with the warranty.

Perhaps the better bet would be to get your Dad to purchase the phone in Europe, where he will also get the wireless service he wants, and to send you the bill.

but where can you get an iPhone without the AT&T contract? Everywhere I click on the Apple site it seems to want to sign me up with AT&T...

Go to an AT&T store

but remember, AT&T do not have a presence with the iPhone in Europe.
