Question

Is IntelCore I5 8250u too much for a 4gbDDR4 RAM ?

Apr 3, 2018 1:10AM PDT

So. I have this new laptop from Asus the Asus x542u that has a core i5 8th Gen in it with 4Gb of DDR4 ram and I've noticed that whenever I multi task like premiere pro and google chrome at the same time my laptop kind off hangs for a couple of second before it switch in between apps. or could it be just the google chrome because even f I don't multitask google chrome still hangs on me for a couple of seconds and its infruriating when I do some of my work.

I'm actually planning to buy a 4gb upgrade so it would help me a lot if you can give me some answers before I do. Thank You in advance

There's no relation between the CPU and amount of RAM. The amount of RAM you need is dependent on what you do with the laptop. So your question is a rather strange one.

Adding 4 GB RAM doesn't seem a bad idea.

Really ?

really ? I really thought that the cpu procees some things fast that the 4gb cant keep up with it. but thanks anyways. oh and what would the problem be ? is it just a bug on my google chrome or what ?

But if there are odd delays where is the delay? You can check Task Manager to sniff out if it's doing a lot of Disk I/O. With just 4GB RAM, I would at the very least disable the following as you don't have spare resources to share: READ https://www.howtogeek.com/224981/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-uploading-updates-to-other-pcs-over-the-internet/

You also can see slow disk drives cut into response times so most are moving to SSD.

Finally there are internet delays. Without working hard did you try changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and in a few weeks this advice might change to the new 1.1.1.1. Stay tuned.

The delay is like this, I switch app or tab on chrome itself then it gives me a blank black page for a couple of seconds, its also the same thing when I try to minimize it and when it happens the mouse pointer delays as well that's why I thought its because of my Ram. also it will have an aftershock because It would also delay an app that I will try to open.

but I tried the internet fix and I haven't experienced it again since.

Can you share which internet fix?

I find on low RAM machines turning off update sharing helps but which fix?

Boot the machine and look at the stuff that gets loaded and is running.

Some of it may be of no value to you.

Everything that gets loaded takes up ram.

Now you open a couple of apps and push the ram high enough that the page file goes active.

This will lead to some delays as you page stuff in and out of the hdd.

The easy fix is to turn off that unneeded stuff from loading at startup.
