Jan 21, 2007 5:30PM PST

hello everybody ,
i want to know whether each electronic device ( like DVD , normal mobiles (Not Blackberry) , audio devices in car , TV , washing machines etc.)has their respective OS or not ?
In my opanion some electronic devices has OS and some has only software for operating itself?
whether my concepts are right or wrong?
what factors decides nature of OS/software of a device?

That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet.

If you define the difference between embedded sofware built on an OS, and embedded software containing its "own" I-O, scheduling and interrupt routines, then maybe this could be answered for a specific software by researching the programs source file.

Having an OS would make it easier for bigger tasks like DVD playback. However an OS is not required and in the case of DVD players could be a way to cut costs by avoiding OS fees.

The answer is that an OS is not required.
