Is Building a RAID 0+1 on an AMD FX-51 mobo super complicated.

by Mahayani / March 4, 2004 4:43 PM PST

Mainly what I'm asking is do the motherboard manufaturers Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI supply decent enough software that helps in the RAID configurations.
My Idea is to have XP in a 0+1 four drive configuration and also have a PATA drive for a different operating system.
I have built and constantly upgrade my current 2 physical disk PATA dual boot system. How much more difficult can building a 5 disk SATA & PATA system be?

The only problem I found is that some have unrealistic expectations of the power supplies. Also, some don't get it about backup and lose it all a few times. Toss in dual boot...

Did you supersize the power supply?

I've got an Antec 550 True Control. Although I'm almost fanatical about backup, sometimes I'm forgetful, which is why RAID 0+1 is appealing. (I need the RAID 0 for the video editing space. Now I backup using both the XP Pro Backup utility (after a quite a few new progie installs) and I try to every couple days do a differential backup of an image file of my OS drive on a separate drive using ExplorerPlus. I'm hoping RAID 1 is secure & stable enough to simply forget about every doing manual backups again.
