Question

Is a Sony Camcorder with a sensor smaller than 1/3" with Exm

Jan 16, 2014 6:41AM PST

I currently have he older 2007 Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder with a moderate sized 1/3" CMOS ClearView sensor, but I plan on buying a better camcorder. Most of Sony's camcorders around the 600-800$ range has sensors smaller than 1/3, but all have Exmor R instead of the ClerarView. So, although these sensors are smaller, are they superior in low-light than the larger 1/3" sensor my HDR-SR5 has? The camcorder I am currently eyeing is the HDR-CX430V. My primary reason for buying it is the Balanced Optical SteadyShot, but since it has a smaller sensor I am contemplating whether I should wait until a camcorder with BOSS and a larger sensor comes out next year. The difference other than Exmor R is it is "back-illuminated". Does that mean although the sensor is smaller, it could potentially be better in low light than my HDR-SR5?
