Is A&M Photo World a trustworthy dealer?

Mar 13, 2005 2:52AM PST

They often have the lowest price, and say "Order Online And Receive A Free Tripod, Cleaning Kit & an LCD Screen Protector With Every Digital Camera Purchase (A $89.97 Value)". I don't think the ExZ50 is tripod mountable and I doubt the LCD protector fits most of the cameras they sell it with, but it's still the lowest price. Does anyone know if buyers should trust this company? http://www.amphotoworld.com/product.asp?id=csexz50&l=DigitalSaver&ds_ref_key=BBCEBGGODOBECGB

Thanks

Glad I asked . . .
Mar 13, 2005 3:44AM PST

It's so much cheaper to have you guys thinking I'm a sucker than them! Wow, that's truly awful.

(I did google it, but I have no idea who's even a good reviewer, whether ratings can be fixed, etc.)

Thanks guys, you saved me a headache or worse!

B& H is exemplary

Been buying from B&H regularly since `99 to include my Elan IIe and my 300D and most of the accessories for each. I have NEVER had even a single gripe. Adorama is also very good. You can't go wrong with either vendor.

A&M Photo Scam
Apr 9, 2005 1:17AM PDT

I am both sad and glad to read about A&M Photo being a scam. I have been watching the price of a digital camera on their site go down slowly. Now I will not be purchasing from these people. Thanks for your post alerting everyone to this fraud. If I can help in anyway with the cause of having these people reported and put out of business or made to be honest (doubt that could happen) just let me know.

A & M Photo is DEFINETLY a SLEAZY operation-Don't Buy !
May 13, 2005 5:32AM PDT

This company is a major scam operation...The worst part is that it leaves the customer (victim) feeling silly to have gone along with them! I should have known better when I called to talk to a 'salesman' who basically lied to me over the phone and sold me a Nikon D70S as an 'upgraded' package when it was merely a standard item.LIES>>LIES>>>LIES>>>! Unbelievable that this plaxe is allowed to perpetrate the fraudulent transactions that it does! I have reported them to my CC Company to launch an investigation and am so concerned about sending the itmes back because they would probaly either lie about the contents received or lie about the 'condition' when received. Sad when you can't trust a company to tell the truth! Very BAD business! Please wish me luck my estimate is thT I WAS OVERCHARGED about $500.00 worth!

A&M Photo - SCAM ARTIST
Apr 3, 2005 1:50AM PST

I ordered a camera from them, the next day i received an email asking me to call their 800 number to confirm my order. I called and was told the camera I ordered was not the retail boxed camera but just the camera with no software, standard battery or charger. If I wanted those items, it would cost me nearly $100 more. When I told him to cancel the order, he dropped the price about $40 and said he would ship it free. Because I felt I was being scammed, I said to cancel the order. He said if I did he would charge my credit card with a $40 cancellation charge. I told him to cancel the order and I would take it up with my ctedit card company. My advice: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

Amphotoworld "The Worst Customer Service"
May 11, 2005 8:32AM PDT

I ordered the new cyber shot from their website, they called me 2 hours later. When the guy figured out that I am not going to buy the extra battery and extended warranty from amphotoworld, he started calling me names and told me I am wasting his time. It seemed like he wanted me to cancel my order. I think the company is bogus.

AM Photoworld
May 18, 2005 6:20AM PDT

It appears that this is a bait & switch operation and they will never send your order. I have been waiting 2 months now. After they tried to switch me to another camera and sell me stuff I didn't want or need, they said it would be 4 to 6 weeks for it to come in. Now that it is 2 months they say it may be another 4 months. An order from the first of april should not take till the end of August to receive as they now state. This is a direct violation of the law.

I would love to find a very agressive lawyer who would like to get a class action law suit going and sink these liars. I am sure there are at least a thousand people who would love to jump on the band wagon and put these guys away.

Any takers?

How does A & M do it?
May 18, 2005 10:58AM PDT

I have tried to call their 'customer service' only to be placed on hold over and over by different 'salesmen' obviously they don't really have any customer service reps- simply put...they don't make $$$ from providing customer care. I guess they figure that there are enough people who will just assume they are a reputable business and don't really need return customers. The sad part is that they are right....It seems the more I inquire about them, the more I learn about the reputation they have from people spread across this great free market consumer nation of ours! If enough of us get together maybe we can do something about them.

A&M Photo World - Scam Artists
Apr 12, 2005 4:39AM PDT

These guys are a bunch of con artist! I shopped online for a new Sony camcorder. Most of the discount prices are around $500 - $550 for the model I was looking for. Their price was $400, I should have know it was a scam. I ordered the camera. The next day I get a call to ?confirm my order?. The sales guy proceeds to tell me that I purchased the camera only and if I wanted to get the actual retail package with the battery and accessories I?d have to pay $650!
I was so irate that I tried to cancel my order, he lowered the price to $539, which was pretty competitive with others but I was still pissed off so I tried to cancel my order. He tells me that I can but that they will charge me a $50 fee since I already placed my order? not thinking I just told him to go ahead and send me the camera for $539.
Afterwards, I realized that they probably couldn?t charge my card until the item was shipped and that I probably could have argued the $50 fee.
Buyer be warned A&M Photo World are a bunch of crooks!!

A & M Photo World Scamming Tactics is good to know
Apr 12, 2005 5:13AM PDT

Thanks to everyone who has posted about A&M Photo. I was very close to placing an order from them for a Minolta C8080 digital camera. I have been shopping around for a few weeks and they have a really low price. Now I understand why. The person who said that "if it sounds too good to be true then it usually is" was absolutely right. Needless to say, I will continue to shop around and forget about buying anything from A&M Photo World!

Thanks again to everyone for posting your experiences. Although I am sorry anyone had to go through such a nightmare, I guess it happens, especially when buying online. Good luck to us all !!!
