"too big to fail"?
Feb 20, 2010 3:07AM PST

versus "too small to matter"?
Here's his letter before flying his plane into the IRS building in Austin, Tx. Is he another Timothy McVeigh, or something else? Is the federal govt still allowing childcare centers in federal buildings that might be targets of outraged citizens or terrorists? After this, and probably after Oklahoma, if I worked in a federal building I'd make sure my childcare was elsewhere.

I noticed something else...
Feb 20, 2010 3:54AM PST

I read his note and noticed something else, the words:
"So now we come to the present. After my experience with the CPA world, following the business crash I swore that I?d never enter another accountant?s office again. But here I am with a new marriage and a boatload of undocumented income, not to mention an expensive new business asset, a piano, which I had no idea how to handle. After considerable thought I decided that it would be irresponsible NOT to get professional help; a very big mistake.".
Does this mean that software engineer got married, and then on his taxes, tried to deduct his wife's piano as a business asset? If that's the case, I can see why the IRS decided to audit him.

Maybe she was a professional musician?

Sounds like he needed a better accountant.

His wifes?....

He played a keyboard in a band....Perhaps he thought since the band was making money and he was using the piano/keyboard to make money it would be a business expense.

However he may have done a full deduction on it in one year instead of the approved depreciation route he should have used instead.
