Iriver Clix 2nd Gen vs. Cowon D2 - which to buy?

Mar 11, 2008 2:54AM PDT

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for a flash mp3 player of medium capacity and a sound quality better than average, and I've narrowed my choices down to these two. A little background - currently I have an Ipod nano 1st gen 2gb and an Iriver Clix (U10) 1gb. They both don't quite satisfy my needs - the nano, though loud, produces a tin-can, cold and metallic sound even with the EQ presets tweaked, and the U10, with it's more lively and deep SQ has too little storing capacity plus no video playback. The main things I'm looking for - good quality, rich and bassy sound, preferablly with enough volume space, easy navigation, and the ability to use the UMS mode. Video is a nice option, but not the main issue here.

At first, having owned 4 iRiver players and being a somewhat loyal fan of the brand, I was firmly set on buying the Clix2, but then the D2 caught my eye with its supposedly premium sound quality and the most powerful output and the SD expansion slot. However, the fact that this device has a touch screen instead of the convenient D-click system which I got used to, and the fact that I don't know how Cowon players sound, still makes me unsure about the ultimate choice.

What would you recommend? It's needed to be said that as for other features, e.g. FM radio, text viewers, support of rare file formats, bundeled software, battery capacity and etc - it's not a matter of concern.

Thanks in advance))
