Iriver clix 2nd gen music

I just bought an iriver clix 2nd gen, 4gb, from amazon. i tried to put music onto it but at first my computer (which has windows xp and windows media 10, and i can't download the windows media 11 because i guess i have a pirated version? i don't know much about it though) was extremely slow. now it does load the device onto the media player, and it says it is synchronizing, but halfway through the computer will either freeze or shut down. if i check if the songs are on the player, it will say the music section is empty, but if i go to extras, browse, music, then it can find the music. i don't know why it won't save to the music folder on the player. please help- thank you.
