Iris/Fingerprint scanning the wave of the future

Biometric technology has been around for years. Mainly corporations utilize biometric technology to help in managing applications that are critical to work on daily functions of our jobs.

Will companies be successful in targeting individuals by selling this technology to individual consumers for things like home and car entry?

I read an article recently that Bill Gates's home knows when someone enters a new room. The rooms temperature will change as well as the music. When will we as consumers see this technology and most importantly be able to afford it??
