Iraqis Find Graves Thought to Hold Hussein's Victims

Apr 14, 2005 1:35PM PDT

AGHDAD, Iraq, April 14 - Investigators have discovered several mass graves in southern Iraq that are believed to contain the bodies of people killed by Saddam Hussein's government, including one estimated to hold 5,000 bodies, Iraqi officials say.

The graves, discovered over the past three months, have not yet been dug up because of the risks posed by the continuing insurgency and the lack of qualified forensic workers, said Bakhtiar Amin, Iraq's interim human rights minister. But initial excavations have substantiated the accounts of witnesses to a number of massacres. If the estimated body counts prove correct, the new graves would be among the largest in the grim tally of mass killings that have gradually come to light since the fall of Mr. Hussein's government two years ago. At least 290 grave sites containing the remains of some 300,000 people have been found since the American invasion two years ago, Iraqi officials say.

I know of no one on this forum who has ever stated that Saddam was anything but a brutal dictator. If you have knowledge of such statments, please provide links to them.

Thanks.

"who cares".........

>>>>I know of no one on this forum who has ever stated that Saddam was anything but a brutal dictator.>>>>

Evidently it was 'ok' to leave Saddam alone doing his killing and torturing....according to all who didn't want the US going there to stop him, as that was ONE of the reasons we went...just not the ONLY reason.

If we hadn't, Saddam would still be in power doing whatever he pleased to his own people and it would have been 'ok' with all of you who opposed it.

Great humanitarians you guys are........

Oh, stop.
Apr 15, 2005 4:30AM PDT

The humanitarian reasons were so far down this administration's list of reasons that it hardly mattered. There are so many other areas that are more of a humanitarian crisis and more amenable to intervention than Iraq was. That rationalization just does not hold water.

No matter which country we have gone to
Apr 15, 2005 5:06AM PDT

for humanitarian reasons, knowing most times that there would be a 'war' of some type and people would be killed, we (the USA) have been condemned for it over and over by people like you.....so PUHHHHHHLEEEEZ stop crying this same old tune over and over by trying to state that we 'should' be somewhere other than wherever we might be at the time.

No matter WHAT we do.....go to help or ignore.....we are crucified by people who think like you do, who will continuously find SOME fault in the reasons for the decision made. And 100% of the time, it will like you just did.......compare apples to oranges..."why aren't we somewhere else" just because you have nothing more to say that makes sense.

Your soapbox has crumbled from the rot and your weight.....time to move on to something else to bit.. about, and I'm sure you'll find something.

Not any sidestepping on my part. Support your accusation accusation if you can, retract it if you cannot.

Those are the two choices, Mark. Any other statement is more of your evasiveness.

"Maybe I just imagined that someone here said something like it, but I can't remember and I don't want to challange my view of reality by going back and looking it up. And if I misstate Dan's positions maybe people will forget my original post."

Actually, your silence speaks volumes, Dan
Apr 15, 2005 5:11AM PDT

You complain bitterly about the USA's actions, but don't recognize that thousands of lives have been saved by our being there. Until you admit to that and until you can accept that going there was actually the right thing to do, even if we had the wrong information ahead of time to do so, you are actually condoning Saddam's actions over the years because you would prefer that we had stayed home and done nothing........and thousands more innocent Iraqi people would be dead by now because Saddam would still be in power. Evidently, THAT is OK with you.

If it's NOT.........it's time to step up to the plate and say so.

My statements are not the point here, Toni
Apr 15, 2005 5:26AM PDT

The point is Marks continued attempts to portray someone, anyone since he never supports his statements, as being a supporter of Saddam. He's said it time and again and has never, never, not even once, produced a shred of evidence to justify his accusations.

That is the point.

Dan

Apr 15, 2005 5:39AM PDT

Either you have been speaking for Blake or taken lessons from him or have been cloned from him, Dan, as you have become the SE expert at the sidestep and duck/dodge and avoid and twist.

>>>>My statements are not the point here, Toni>>>>

If YOUR statements are not to MAKE a point, why make them at all? If you do NOT condone Saddam's actions against his own people, why can you NOT admit that, even with wrong information at the time, the USA going there actually was a good thing and has saved thousands of lives that would have been lost if Saddam were still in power because we didn't go?

You cannot have it both ways, Dan.......either you still condemn the USA for going and therefore believe it was ok for us to stay home and let Saddam still be in power and killing his people........or you finally agree that no matter why we went, that country is better off because we DID go.

Choose.......

And stop trailing Mark like a dog in heat just to twist every little thing that he says into something else because it is amusing to you to do so.
