Hi, Steve.

OTOH, I wonder how the Iraqis see that? BTW, I have pictures of McDonald's, Baskin Robbins, and Frederick's of Hollywood with Cyrillic signs (in Moscow and St. Petersburg).

Excuse me for butting in on your post to Steve, Dave, but had to do it.

I don't think anyone cares "How the Iraqis see it" The only interest here, is the efforts of the AAFES to bring a little bit of HOME to the troops serving over there.

Personally, I think the Iraqis love it. Maybe I used the wrong word (Americanized)

Hi, George.

>>I don't think anyone cares "How the Iraqis see it"<<
And that attitude is one of the reason much of the world despises us -- when I was young, it was called "the ugly American."

Dave, these are primarily for the troops aren't they? Like a PX.

I don't see why the Iraqi people would object or be offended.

Isn't it funny that people complain about the ugly American?

We are loud and obnoxious and fat sometimes but we enjoy ourselves. Why is it that we are always accused of ruining other people's cultures?

When I was in seventh grade, I had a friend that was a total extrovert. This was very unsettling to my poor introvertic self. One thing I noticed was that she was having a lot more fun than I was so I did everything she did and found out it was fun.

Maybe that is what is happening in these other countries. The natives (esp. the young people) are finding out that we are having more fun than they are so they want to do what we do.

I don't see Americans saying (at least not too much) that people from other countries are ruining our culture. For the most part we simply embrace their culture and pick out what we like about it and incorporate it into ours.
