Iran eyes badges for JewsLaw would require non-Muslim insign

May 18, 2006 11:41PM PDT

Friday, May 19, 2006

Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical "standard Islamic garments."

The law, which must still be approved by Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

"There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," said Rabbi Hier. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this."

well its seems these iraining leaders want to redo ww2

think (China, Russia) won't fill the void.
May 19, 2006 11:55AM PDT

Well, if that's the reason (so the other guy doesn't) to sell weapons, the US might as well sell weapons to Iran because China and Russia will/are selling to Iran.

Don't sell weapons to Pakistan, India and then tell Iran not to get weapons to defend themselves against the weapons you sold to their enemies.

That's the point. (SIGH)

Mubarak chides U.S. over nuclear double standards

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) - President Hosni Mubarak opened a World Economic Forum meeting Saturday with jabs at the United States and warnings that the world must overcome the widening gap between rich and poor and block escalating threats of terrorism.

With U.S.-Egyptian relations as strained as they have been at any time in Mubarak's 25-year rule, the Egyptian leader implicitly accused America of having double standards on nuclear policy.

Mubarak, 78, whose country is the United States' closest ally in the Arab world and was the first to sign a peace treaty with Israel, vowed to work ceaselessly for a broader peace in the Middle East.

the wayback machine. I forgot that iraq is clinton's fault. I heard that chelsea hated the hussein boys, so she told her mom to tell her dad not to catch bin laden.
I forgot we were on the hunt, do we need more dogs?
I am also glad to be reminded of the power of the iraqi air force. don't forget the iraqi navy. I think they had a boat.

How soon we forget (including me) Israel's
May 19, 2006 7:32AM PDT

pre-emptive attack on Iraq's Osirak nuclear plant 15 miles outside Baghdad in 1981.

Saddam Hussein was cooking up some nukes and Israel Prime Minister Menachim Begin acted in self-defense with an Israeli pre-emptive.

Was watching the Discovery TV Military Channel last night and they had a 1 hour segment but I only caught just a little of the last part.

It is estimated that by Gulf War I, Saddam Hussein would have several Hiroshima-size nukes. The Israeli general who led the strike was able to hang up a framed letter from **** Cheney, who thanked him for making his job as defense secretary much easier during the Gulf War.

The program interviewed many of President Reagan's former Cabinet who were upset with the action that Israel took. However, much was said and shown about some of the worlds most precise accurate bombing done by the Israel pilots on that raid. No mention was made about Smart guided bombs, perhaps they didn't have them back in 1981. Everyone indicated that the precision bombing was probably the best ever done by any Air Force. They only hit the reactor, with no collateral damage to adjacent buildings containing nuclear radioactive material to cause radiation, or hit other adjacent very close structures. Satellite photos were shown of the destruction...amazing. Apparently 11 Iraq's plant workers were killed and one French scientist, no other civilians.

As far as predictions....I and others stated during the Korean War, that China (they sent thousands to attack our troops) would be our WWIII. Then in the Nam War, again China helped the N. Viets and again was my prediction. Hope by now, with all our outsourcing of goods being made in China that they would not want that stopped, and that a war will never start. China, as was said years ago, is so large and populated that it could never be conquered.

Iran, dang if we didn't train their pilots some years back, and I recall many here in San Antonio going to language school, and not observing their religion by attending the Strip Topless Clubs, one that was then near Lackland AFB.

much less conquered. they have been a thorn under the saddle since mao took power. not enough bombs or bullets. and now they not only make our stuff but lend us money. it's whacky.

side note: I did my af bt at lackland, and then went to wichita falls for school. it was christmas time, and it snowed. about 1/4 inch, guys from hawaii never had seen snow fall, driving was bad with the ice and all. being from the upper midwest, I wondered what the fuss was about. back then we were warned not to go by the san antonio river walk. times certainly have changed.

home of Sheppard AFB had B-36 Bombers when I visited there in the early 50's, and it happened to be in December when it snowed.

The SA River walk was probably not safe back when you were at Lackland as muggers often hung out in the dark spots and venturing away from the first couple of Mexican restaurants would run into trouble. Nowadays there are a huge string of nightclubs, shops, hotels, and Mexican eating places on the River Walk and probably the safest secure place in Texas.

b-36 was long gone by 66 when I was there. would loved to have seen one close up. they reminded me of an aluminum 'spruce goose'. they did look like they wouldn't fly but I know better. yeah on my one and only weekend pass the riverwalk was off limits. otherwise ride home with ap's. I've seen recent photos of that area and can't believe the difference.

when the Shah was in power. Too bad Jimmuh dropped the ball on that one and caused most of the problems we have with Iran today.

Just thought I'd remind you.

Yeah, I know.

Speaking of the Shah. When he was ill and treated by several hospitals, he also visited the big AF hospital at Lackland AFB for some treatments. They made a special high class VIP room for the Shah. When one of my friends, a Nam vet, had terminal cancer, they put him in that Shah VIP room three days before he died, and he was only a Tech Sergeant upon retirement. Good respect they show for our vets.
