If you unplug an extender it makes sense the extender will no longer work.

When setting up my cable box to work with the TV's remotes ( regular and smart remotes) everything works OK until I unplug the IR extender. What am I doing wrong?

Yes , But the manual tells you to unplug it after the cable box respondes to the extender.
That would mean that the TV is defective. I still think I'm doing something wrong when setting it up. Anybody else?
