iPOD Voice Recording, who knows the answer?

Nov 25, 2005 2:44PM PST

Alright,
I bought the 30GB iPOD video told by the salesmen at the store that they sold a mic for it but it was not in stock. I own it for about 2 weeks, go to Best Buy, see the griffin iTalk and realize that it only works for the 3rd generation iPOD. So, what is the solution. Do I try to fight with the Linux software, or do I just buy a cheap mic and plug it in. Where does it get plugged into though? Headphone jack? There is nowhere else to plug into. If I plug a mic into the headphone jack, is my iPOD going to freeze and be un-usable or un-returnable? We all know that the manual says it's able to record, but it doesn't explain how, it just states how to use the menu functions to playback your recordings. So, who knows? Has there been Apple news out already about a new voice recorder for 5th Gen.? Is there going to be one out soon? If anyone knows how to record from experience or say 3rd hand experience, any knowledge you have would be greatly appreciated. However, if your reading this, I'm sure that your trying to figure out the same thing I am and are equally frustrated by the change in the iPOD setup. I love my iPOD, now I just want to be able to record myself practicing onto it. Sorry for the long post, help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Drummer in need
