ipod video not getting recognized on computer

Dec 26, 2008 5:41AM PST

I have a ipod video 30 GB. When i plug it into my computer, the battery icon on the top-right of the ipod says charged. This only takes a minute. When I take it off the computer the battery quickly goes down to almost nothing. I have tried restoring and it dosent work. On my laptop, i can charge the ipod, no problem. Is it my computer? how do I fix this? The ipod works fine on my laptop. My brother has an ipod classic which works fine on my computer. I don't know what the problem is. Plz help

thanks

Could it be the cable?

Frankly I would go with what works where it works. But avoid using the front USB ports and if it was my desktop I'd try a new USB 2.0 PCI CARD.

I decline to dive into how USB 2.0 ports work or what could be busted. I've going to stick to how I might solve this.

USB ports

I have already checked every port on my computer. I just fail to understand how one ipod is working on my computer without any problem (using the same cable) and one isn't. I can't use it with my laptop because i have over 2000 songs which would occupy a big amount of space on my laptop. Thank you so much for your reply but please do look into the problem once again.

Thanks

I'm going to share what I would try next. There are stories about registry cleaners and more but you didn't tell if you ran such.

My most common fix is to pop in a new USB 2.0 PCI card. Troubleshooting past that takes reloading the OS and more so that's not good.
