iPod Touch synchs poorly with Outlook

May 26, 2010 8:40PM PDT

My iPod Touch will not synch accurately with Outlook. All my appointments in the Outlook Calendar on my Windows XP, Dell desktop appear three hours earlier on the Touch. (Yes, my clocks are the same on each device.)

I have about 10 categories in my Outlook contacts (clients, suppliers, subcontractors, family, friends, etc.) When I synch Outlook with the Touch, none of the categories appear on the Touch, just a long list of "all contacts." I have to have categories or I can't use the Touch.

I thought that the problem was that I was using Outlook 2001. I installed Outlook 2007 and still have the same problem

First thought is TIME ZONE setting.

The last time I helped with this I found the TZ was off on one machine.

Good luck,

Thanks for the feedback, however, the time zone settings are correct on both devices.

Then back to Apple.

It's something but I can't tell from your posts. It did work here once I got the TZ right.

Calendar synch solved
May 28, 2010 11:54AM PDT

Thanks for your input. I finally solved the iPod Touch calendar synch problem where the time was 3 hrs. off. It was an obscure setting, I didn't know about. Here is the path: Settings> mail, contacts, calendar> time zone support> toggle switch to OFF

However, the categories still do not appear in contacts on the Touch. I'm beginning to think that the Touch just isn't capable of contact categories.

THAT

The contact categories is worthy of its own discussion. Glad it was the timezone yet again. So far, when you hear about any number of hours off you know to look at timezones and clocks on all machines.

Tip: Always look for the GMT difference in hours. If your TZ was TZ plus or minus 3 then we see where the 3 hours change comes from. Tracking down which machine and app is too much fun.
