iPod Touch Owners: What cases should we buy?

Oct 2, 2007 7:18AM PDT

Hello fellow iPod users. I have just purchased the new iPod Touch, and I'm wondering what is the best case for it. At the time I am writing this, there are very few manufacturers who have actually released products for it. I found some, but I think that Griffin's new line of accesories are the most appealing.

But, they all look different with their own adavantages and disadvantages. For those of you who also have a Touch, post here on what you think is the best case for the Touch.

Me, I'm going for either the Griffin Calafornia Roll, which is already out, or the Reflect case. The Courier looks kind of good too.

Again, what should we say is the best Touch case?

Of course....

But I'm waiting for them to at least show up in the Apple Stores. I want to see them up close and personal before buying. Right now, I'm using the pouch that came with my 5.5 Gen iPod.

even though some have appeared on Amazon and other stores. Waiting for the Apple Store to get them is a great idea, but I just wish we don't have to wait for two weeks or so. You'd think that the producers of the accessories would have expected for people to need a case. Apple should have made a leather case or a small pouch to complement the cleaning cloth!

Oh well. I just want to have a good quality case that I can use. What's the point of having a Touch if you can't go out in public with it for fear of scratching or dropping it? I have to be cautious and careful whenever I have to use it, and it's not exactly a great feeling.

Who else thinks this is important?

ktreb, nice idea with the Video pouch. I'm going to try that if I can find my old one LOL. Thanks.

invisible shield
Oct 4, 2007 10:52AM PDT

i think the first thing that ANY ipod owner should purchase is invisible shield. this is gauranteed to proctect the device from common scratches on the pack and the front. i have one on the back but dicided not to put the front on becuase its glass and i think i can keep it safe until i get another case for it.
griffen has a nice looking case that i might look at, but i am also looking to see what iskin puts out there becuase i like what they have done in the past.

to sum up:
1. get an invisible shield for scratches and permanent protection
2. wait just a little bit longer and everyone will have touch cases out and then you can use the case and invisble shield.

Case work

I got a neoprene cover from DLO. It has a plastic face shield, and a neoprene body that has a place on the back to store the earphones when not in use. The neoprene is ribbed on the side so you don't have to worry about it slipping out of your hand when holding it (which I found to be the most worrisome aspect of the iTouch. The only problem with this cover that I have seen is that there is nothing on it to hook onto a belt or anything like that.

Incase was a good brand,
Dec 18, 2007 10:32AM PST

that is, until I got the first case they made for the Touch. The headphone jack hole is misplaced, you have to really play with the velcro flap on the top to get the sleep button in the middle (where it's supposed to be), not to mention the case does not fit it too well at all. It bulges all along the sides for me and the white threading woven into it pops out in some places.

Incase did make one accurate statement though: it's a snug fit. It's hard to pull out of there. Seriously. And for those who like to be careful when handling nice gadgets, this case makes it a bit hard. The only plus is the chrome finish is protected, but of course, you can't see it, as with most iPod cases in general. I'm going to get a new one, preferably a Griffin or one of the other ones Apple has now.

Incase must have had a bad quarter, LOL. When I got my MBP, I bought a nice Incase sleeve, which is great. And I guess it's been about 3 years ago since I got my good old Video, which I had trouble with too... the first case was one of those cheap Incase neoprene sleeves. That case completely scratched up the finish on it, and the click wheel. I was able to swap it for a better quality Incase case thing, which I enjoy very much, but right now, they're slipping in quality. Or you just need to pay extra for all of their better stuff, though most of their products are somewhat expensive to begin with. Comes with the Apple territory. LOL.

I got the pink neoprene version
Dec 18, 2007 1:27PM PST

It fits much better than the black leather one, which I imagine was the one you got. I also got the Griffin Elan convertible, which I like, but the leather is kind of cheap. Otherwise, it's a good case. It's wearing out around the clip area. So, I'm still looking for the perfect case. I found that the armbands were horrible. Well, the 2 that I tried anyway. Marware sportsuit convertible(it got a good review on iLounge, but I was disappointed) and one from Griffin.

I usually look to iLounge to give me reviews and first looks at iPod accessories:

Really, I think your best bet is the Vibe Vault. I can drop mine on concrete and the ipod is still in perfect working condition. You can get them at www.vibevault.com
