Same hardware as 2nd generation

I always though the hardware was the same and only the software changed(?) Here's a reference-

If you have any issues with the point of sale go there to clarify what traspired. It's normally much more difficult to deal with the big box stores via phone than in person IME. Print out the kb from the apple support pages & also bring in the wikipedia printout so all parties are clear on the various specs. I certainly wouldn't count best buy as place where their hourly employees are particular astute at knowing the subtle differences between devices.

iPod touch '3rd' 8GB
Jun 2, 2010 6:22AM PDT

The 8GB iPod touch currently on sale, is in fact a 2nd gen iPod touch. Apple kept it, because they wanted to offer a low price alternative to the true 3rd gen devices, which are 32 and 64GB. Many retailers, however, sell it as a 3rd gen iPod touch, which is wrong. Apple expressly announced last year, that they would keep the "8GB second gen iPod touch" as a low price alternative.

Anyway, the only real difference between them, is the voice control app, the flash storage, and a slight upgrade on the CPU. Everything else is the same.
