Ipod touch 2nd gen 8gb

Apr 10, 2011 6:00AM PDT

Okay, this is my daughters ipod and I honestly know nothing about them but here is her issue. The Ipod plays fine with no headphones plugged in but as soon as we plug them in the singers voices are really quiet and there is a hint of distortion. Is there an easy fix for this or is apple just selling crappy ipods lately? My husband has had his older ipod for at least 8 years with no issues and it seems that alot of people are having this issue. I tried apples forums but to no avail this issue is still here. Any help is appreciated.

My nephew had the same problem with his ipod. His worked fine for a couple days then it wouldn't work with external speakers, then the headphones quit - all within a week or so. Apple gave him all sorts of things to try (like cleaning the port with a q-tip). Nothing that they suggested ever worked. It sounds like it is a very common problem. In the end, he just returned it and got a new one which works great.
