ipod not seen in my computer

G'day all.

I know someone will be able to answer this. When i conect my ipod, it appears in my computer, but about ten seconds later it disapears. I tunes still works, but i just can't use it as a mass storage device. If someone could tell my how to fix this it would be great. I am using windows xp with the 20GB ipod.
