machine and "De-Authorize" the iPod on that machine.
Before you do that though, set the preferences to sync Manually, NOT automatically.
Then, when you computer finally recognizes the iPod, it will not download an empty playlist and delete what is on there.
Now, do we have to guess what OS you are running, or whether you are connecting via Firewire or USB. USB 1 or 2.0

I purchased a 20GB iPod + HP. I initially downloaded some songs from my friend's laptop and recently I tried to install the iPod software on my laptop. During installation when it asks me to connect the iPod, I connect it to the USB port, but installation software cannot recognize my iPod.
What can I do to have my iPod recognized on my laptop?
When I tried to skip the configure iPod step, it installs iTunes, but iTunes does not recognize my iPod being connected.
Is there something missing that is preventing me from using my iPod on my laptop?
