Dec 10, 2007 11:55AM PST

before i buy an itouch i am trying to determine if it can access the internet over at&t wifi hotspots (ie mcdonald's) included in my interent dsl service.

searches of the apple and at&t site do not provide a clear answer. other sites give mixed answers.

anyone know the correct answer?

Thanks

You didn't tell what hardware you have.

Verizon is now handing out a wifi dsl modem router box. With that the answer is "yes."

The Apple site

indicates that the iPod Touch will access the WiFi iTunes music store and the internet from any of the free Hotspots. (Starbucks, McDonalds).

Those hotspots are NOT included in your internet dsl service. However, if you mean "including" your own wireless network, the answer should be, as Bob said, Yes.

Your iPod will work on any Wi-Fi network

if you have the code for it should it be protected. From my experience, you have to buy something from restaurants or shops that offer networks to be able to use them. The networks may not register as protected under the Wi-Fi preferences on the Touch, but if you try to use Safari, you will be directed to a page prompting for a login.

AT&T is affiliated with the iPhone, not the Touch. Of course, the Touch will work on any AT&T provided wireless network, or any network. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile HotSpots, etc. they will all work on the device. It's just a touch screen iPod with a normal Wi-Fi antenna built in. No worries.
