iPod + iHome + Old unpowered external stereo speakers

Jul 9, 2010 10:28PM PDT

Hi...I have a current 160GB iPod and an iHome iH5B. I also have a pair of speakers from a bookshelf stereo. These speakers use regular old speaker wire with just the 2 bare ends and are unpowered.
I would like to cobble something together where I can use the iPod in the iHome and have the resulting audio come out the external speakers. Or, if that can't be done use the speakers as output directly from the iPod.
Does anyone know if this is possible? What types of connectors and wires would be necessary to accomplish this? Anyone ever seen a diagram or have a link showing this?
Thanks in advance for your consideration. F

the iPod has a 3.5mm output on it.
Radio Shack sells a 3.5mm plug to RCA left and right.
Doubtful that the iPod could drive a pair of unpowered speakers.

If you have a stereo system in the house, just connect the iPod to the Aux input of it and enjoy the sound
