Question

iPod gen 7 sync probs

Jan 7, 2015 12:19AM PST

hey,

I have a gen 7 ipod classic. It has had issues as the new HD started fading. Finally it was stuck on a recovery loop and I couldn't recover. Wouldn't restore as kept shutting down and starting up again. Would also get the couldn't restore error 1432 I believe the odd time it would stay on during a restore attempt.

Wouldn't erase or repair disc in disc doctor could hear HD do the whir-click nonstop thingy

So I installed a 32Gb CF memory card and plugged back in to macbook. it got the same need to restore and initially wouldn't. So opened disc utility and erased and formatted the CF chip to Mac OS extended journaled which it did like a charm. Then reconnected to itunes and did a restore and went thru the process just fine. I get the will restart leave plugged in window. However when it restarts I get the detected ipod in recovery mode but no error #

I ejected it and ran it thru repair harddrive in disc doctor and comes out w/no probs detected

The ipod shows in itunes .... however shows

Capacity: zero KB
Serial Number: 8L75087etc

tried dragging a file off the destop into the ipod icon and works as well as can open file perfectly which maybe suggests iTunes is corrupted?

however can't seem to uninstall and reinstall iTunes
tried this from a 2006 post

Remove these:

1. iTunes in Applications
2. iTunes.pkg in /Library/Receipts
3. com.apple itunes.plist in ~/Library/Preferences

That should do it.

However ........

when try to drag itunes from applications to the trash get a

iTunes.app can't be modified or deleted because it's required by OSX

iTunes version: 12.0.1.26
Macbook Pro OS 10.9.5

Answer
Sounds like a broken iPod and not a sync issue.

I'd take it to Apple to see what repair costs. There are exchange programs and web sites like fixyourpod.com out there if you are a DIY person. But it doesn't sound like any sync issue.
