iPod and Windows vista Should I scan and Fix?

every time I plug my ipod (5Gen) into my Vista machine, before itunes recognize it, I get a windows prompt asking me to "scan and Fix(recommended)" or to "continue"

I always just click continue and move on.

If i do click scan and fix will it hurt my ipod? wipe it's data? or will it just do a check and let it pass on through?

Even if it did screw up I could always hard reset the pod.
