General discussion

Jan 4, 2005 10:26PM PST

Hi i am new to the fourms and i am going to purchase an mp3 player and i am cnsidering either the ipod 40gb or the iriver h340. The reasons why i am looking into the ipod are, size, simplicity and style. the reasons im looking into the iriver h340 are, it can play movies, view pictures and color screen. I am also wondering about the sound quality on both of the players. What do you think? thanks for your help.

The best way to find out which is better is simply by trying them both out. The interface with ipod is amazingly easy to use and of course very cool. Not to take away from the iriver's easy interface its just not as quick and simple as ipod is. also itunes is a fabulous set up versus manually stripping music of cd's onto your computer through a window's based program. The huge downfall that seems to be hitting ipod is the ~18 month battery life. after this battery runs out you may need to replace it which can cost up to 100 dollars. the iriver doesn't have this problem. but when reading ur answers about this topic dont take interest in all of those that just bash ipod so that they can jump on the band wagon, it really is a quality device and should not be over looked because of its popularity. take into consideration what kind of usage it will be given, how much music u plan to have on it, and where you plan to take it then make your choice, dont listen to people who have already made up there mind that ipod is a waste of money cause its not, and they are terribly mistaken. i still have a cd player Happy but im going to buy one of the 40g's pretty soon. good luck

IRiver

IPod, you'll pay for the name. I love my IRiver, and you'll love the color screen, too. As for the interface, if you have one technological bone in your body, you won't have a problem. I think that people have a problem with it because it isn't what they are used to (IPod). I've had no problems with the sound quality, either.

Apple iPod is slimmer, much more easier to use and it's desing is far too nice & sophisticated to compare to the iRiver (wich looks like an artefact from the early 60's. ).

Now if you wish your player to have :

- a full usb mass-storage support ( OS independent : works on MacOS , Linux , Windows. No drivers : works from your PC, a frend's PC, your office's PC, without the install CD )
- usb host facility ( transfer pic or videos from your camera, or firends's MP3 player to the player without PC )
- color display for music and other (pics, txt files )
- firmware upgrade ( new formats and features ) support
- very honest transfer rate ( 2.8Mb / s )
- a large palette of supported audio and image formats

Then iRiver is the only one to fit your needs.

Now, you choose Happy
