iPhoto able to work on a different volume then Startup?

Nov 3, 2007 3:33AM PDT

I like to know if there is a trick or normal way, to let iPhoto act as iTunes does?
I mean iPhoto stores all updates on fotos on the startup volume.
I would like to manage my fotos on a dedicated drive and work only on or from that drive.
I do not like my startup disk fill up with iPhoto stuff.
I use iPhoto 6.0.6 on a G4 windmachine Wink 10.4.9 2Gb ram, startup disk 250Gb but 500Gb ready for fotos only, once my new Mac Pro comes in. hopefully within 2 weeks. Can't bearly wait.

who knows.....
thanks a lot for thinking

If you hold down the OPTION key as you start iPhoto, it should allow you to pick which iPhoto library to use, whether it is on the internal HD or an external one.

Try starting iPhoto up right now, while holding down the OPTION key and you should see a dialogue window saying...

Choose Photo Library

iPhoto needs a Photo Library to continue. You may choose an existing Photo Library or create a new one.

QUIT---CREATE LIBRARY---CHOOSE LIBRARY

Did you see it?

Hope this helped.

cheers

Hi Grim,
If this works without storing the delta of an altered photo on my startup disk then you 've made my day man !!!

... in whichever iPhoto Library you are currently working in. I do not know if you will need to select the external HD iPhoto library every time or if it will automatically reset if you disconnect and reconnect the external HD. Experimentation will clear that up for you.

Glad I made your day.
