Question

iPhone recommendations: 4s or 5s?

Jan 28, 2014 5:12PM PST

Planning on purchasing my first ever iPhone soon after my cheap Android final sputters to its end, and I was wondering if I could get some advice/recommendations.

A big reason for me purchasing the iPhone is its camera. I used to like taking photography semi-seriously, but over the years I've found myself valuing convenience over artistic quality. I'll be doing some travelling in a couple months time, so I'll be looking to use it during my travels as my main camera.

I've been reading a lot about the picture quality between the 4s and 5s, but I'm still struggling to grasp whether the difference is worth a $300 difference.

Is the 5s worth the investment over a 4s in terms of its new camera features (larger sensor, true tone flash etc.)?

The camera's of the high-end Nokia Lumia Windows phones seem to be good also. Unless you prefer iOS for some reason I certainly should include those in your considerations.

i've considered the lumia as well as i've heard of its good camera, but in light of everything else (price, design etc.) i'm still leaning towards the iphone, its just a matter of which one Silly

The photos do generally look better

Sure, at least part of this is due to the better hardware. The other stuff though can be achieved (at least partially) on the older rig given the photographer's experience/skillset. YMMV.

Whether or not the improved hardware is worth an extra $300 seems like a very subjective issue.
