iPhone plans in Canada

So, my wife has a first gen iPhone and went to her service provider (Fido) to add on their $30 for 6 GB/month data plan - no can do. The phone must be purchased fom them as they check the serial number when data is sent... nothing new there.

Of course she wanted to buy a new 16 GB phone add the $30 data package, I would have inherited the 1st gen and added a $30 data package. So this ******* company is going to lose at least $60 month x 36 months (contract) plus the sale of the phone, and any other miscellaneos costs.

Now they get nothing as there is no point to purchase a new phone.

I'm fed up with the stupidity of the Canadian mobile providers. It's bad enough that their service sucks, they are over priced, there isn't any competition (it's a monopoly), but I have to be constantly reminded that I'm paying money to a bunch of underperforming morons who can't even run a company to maximize their profits. They only continue to exist as a company because they don't have to compete with anyone else.
