Question

iPhone iMessage Problem

Dec 8, 2013 1:07AM PST

I have an iPhone 5, friend of mine has an iPhone 4S - when we send Text messages it does not send via iMessage (Blue Clouds on Screen), it sends via Text.
All my other friends w/ iPhones I do not have a problem with only this one.
We have checked the settings, specifically how to send 1st iMessage and on both iPhones are set to the Cell Phone number, not email addresses.
I have gone through the Manual and we have re-checked everything - really cannot figure this one out.
Any help is appreciated.

iPhone iMessage Problem
Dec 11, 2013 12:39AM PST

OK, I read through all replies to the discussion, and I guess I am missing something.
So, when trying to send iMessage iPhone to iPhone why will it only send as a Text Message (SMS) and not via iMessage ? All other messages to other iPhone are via iMessage except this one person's iPhone.
Checked all the settings on both iPhones and still no clue.
I apologize I just don't understand at this point.

Thanks in advance.

It's not a setting.

The button is Green and to change that back is in the discussion I noted.

You bring up a great question. Should it be in some settings menu too?

Take a look in your Contacts.

if the contact mobile number is marked as an iPhone, it will send via iMessage.

If not, then it will be text, BUT, you will have to do the workaround for a while until it learns what you need for that person. At least that is my experience.

Beware when a iPhone user changes to another sort. Keep an eye on your texts then.
They will say Undelivered.
Touch and hold the send button and choose Send as Text and you will be fine.

Your statement - if your contact is listed as an iPhone it will send via iMessage.
Not in this case. My friend is listed as iPhone and the messages have been sent/received via Text Message (SMS).
That is the reason for my post & discussion.

Thanks.

Does the green button have any bearing on this?
Dec 12, 2013 7:44AM PST

Not about the sleep but the topic? I read a few posts and when it's green it appears to do something else.

Yes, there is a correlation between the

color of the button and the method of sending.

Green for Text and Blue for iMessage, BUT, I have been unable to find a way to switch the Send button between the colors, although I have noticed that if you force the text method by hitting the blue "bubble" enough times, it defaults to green for the remainder of the conversation.

Maybe at some future iOS update, it would be possible to indicate in the Contacts, at will, whether SMS or iMessage is the method of choice
