IPhone goes black

After clicking on camera icon in photography, the screen is black. Everything else is fine. But can't see anything, so can't take pictures. What can I do?

Is reboot same as reset? If so, which setting should I do? All? Network? What happens to all items I added--photos, bookmarks, etc.?

Turn it off and then back on again
