Can't guess.

But I have an iPhone 6 w/64GB and all is well. It wasn't new but a refurb for just about 200USD so it was an upgrade from my very old still working i5s.

In your case I would at the very least turn it off and on again (reboot too.)

That

Sounds like a hardware failure. Hope it's under some warranty.

Hardware Problem

I think it’s a hardware problem. Better to show it to nearby apple store. I prefer iplanetstore. Last time even my iphone had the same issue. The inner light was not ON even when the phone was switched on. I went to iplanetstore & got it working perfectly. I had my phone warranty too. The iplanetstore have the best service among all other apple store. Hope you have the iphone warranty with you, if there then it's good.

Itunes reboot

Tired rebooting it through itunes? Maybe try that first before having it professionally checked.
