Answer
That's about right.

The battery is a simple 300 cycle rated model. So that's about 2 or more years and then it loses capacity. Now the decision is to have Apple or someone else change it. I'm a do it myself person, others will go to Apple or iCracked repair.

Notice their words.

They wrote "Lately." If it was what you noted, they would have not wrote that word.

Even when it's standby

It's still draining even when I don't use the phone hahaha

Even when not in use.

Phones can drain the battery. Just wanted to write that's how they work.

Forgot to tell

I forgot to tell that the battery draining issue happened after I updated my 4s. So now, I'm kinda scared to update my iDevices again Sad

Answer
probably won't get any better

You could try turning off come location services and turn off wifi when you're not using it. That helped me when I still had my 4s. A work around is to get something like a mophie juice pack for the 4s. It gave me some extra time until I upgraded my phone. But you will either need to get a new one or change the battery sooner or later.

Not sure how you define "costly"

but a replacement battery for this iPhone, in the US, can be had for under $20 which includes all the tools necessary to complete the operation.

iphone 5

I got 2 iphones 4 and one iphone 5 and all have the same issue, battery.. In winter, if i keep one of my phones on cold for like 2 min, they shutdown even if the battery is at 50%.

If mine did that

I'd try a factory reset then a new battery.

iPhone 4s battery draining fast

Here’s a rundown of what may be causing the problem and how you can fix it.
A growing number of people have found that the "Setting Time Zone" element within Location Services in iOS seems to be operating when it doesn’t need to be, resulting in excessive battery drain.

To stop that from happening, go to Settings > Location Services > System Services. From there, it’s just a matter of turning off “Setting Time Zone.”

Switching it off may mean that your iPhone will no longer set its own time zone when you travel, but that’s a small price to pay for dramatically increasing the life of your iPhone charge, notes iDownload, which tested this method on several iPhones, including the 4s, iPhone 4, and an iPhone 3GS, all of which demonstrated drastically improved battery life after making the change. hope this is useful thanks
